How to make a video collage for your Facebook story

By · Updated

To show several videos playing at the same time in a Facebook story, combine them into one 9:16 video first, then share that video to your story. Storyvids makes that video in your browser, from up to 6 clips and photos.

Facebook shows your story on both Facebook and Messenger, so one upload reaches both. The same MP4 also works as an Instagram story. Nothing uploads to Storyvids, and there is no account or watermark.

Steps

  1. 01

    Pick a layout

Open the editor and tap the layout button. One on top, two below suits a trip: a wide shot on top and two details under it. The 2 × 2 grid holds four clips and the 2 × 3 grid holds six.

  2. 02

    Add your clips

Tap a cell to pick a video or a photo. Select several files at once and they fill the empty cells in order. To film a clip right there, turn on the camera and hold the shutter.

  3. 03

    Frame each clip

Drag inside a cell to move the video, and pinch or scroll to zoom. Keep faces and text away from the top and bottom edges of the frame.

  4. 04

    Save one MP4

Tap the check mark, pick 1080p and download. On Android, tap “Share to Instagram or Facebook” to send it to the Facebook app, or “Save to phone” to keep a copy. On iPhone, tap “Save to Photos or share”.

  5. 05

    Share it to your story

Open Facebook and tap Create story at the top of your Feed. Pick the video from your camera roll, choose who can see it, then tap Share.

The size Facebook Stories use

Meta’s ads guide asks for 9:16 video in Facebook Stories and lists 1440 × 2560 pixels. Every Storyvids layout is 9:16: 1080p saves 1080 × 1920, 1440p saves 1440 × 2560, 4K saves 2160 × 3840. Any of them fills the screen with no black bars.

Where to keep faces and text

The same ads guide suggests leaving about 14% at the top and 20% at the bottom of a story free of text and logos, so the buttons don’t cover them. In one on top, two below, frame the top clip a little lower, and keep faces in the middle of the bottom cells.

Sound and music

The sound from every clip is mixed into the saved video. Facebook’s help page says you may be able to add a clip of a song when you share a photo or video to your story. If you plan to add one, pick clips with quiet sound.

Who sees it, and for how long

You choose the audience, such as Public or Friends, before you share. Your story stays up for 24 hours on Facebook and in Messenger. After that, it stays in your story archive, which only you can see.

Clips of different lengths

The saved video runs as long as your longest clip. Shorter clips loop until it ends, so no cell goes blank. Clips of a similar length loop less and look calmer.
