Multiple videos in one Instagram Story, without CapCut

By · Updated

You don’t need CapCut to put several videos in one Instagram Story. Combine the clips into one 9:16 video with any tool that has a grid, then post that video as your story.

CapCut does this with collage templates. Instagram’s own tools, Edits and Storyvids are the other ways, and each one does a different part of the job. Storyvids wrote this page, so every claim about another tool links to that tool’s own page.

At a glance

Instagram “select multiple”
Built into Stories. Takes up to 10 photos or videos and posts them in the order you picked. They play one after another, not on one screen
Instagram Layout
Built into the Stories camera. Splits one story into a grid of up to 6 photos. It does not take videos
Edits
Instagram’s video editing app for Android and iPhone. Its Overlay tool adds a photo or video on top of your clip, so you can stack clips by hand
CapCut
A video editor for phones, computers and the web. Its own guide makes a video collage from a template in CapCut Web, after you sign up with Google, TikTok or email
Collage apps
Many apps in the App Store and Google Play make video collages. Check each listing for in-app purchases and watermarks before you start
Storyvids
Runs in the browser. 8 layouts with up to 6 photos and videos, all playing at once. No sign-up, no upload, no watermark. No text, music or trimming

Steps

  1. 01

Open the editor in your browser

Use Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android, or a recent Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on a computer. There is nothing to install and no account to make.

  2. 02

    Pick a layout

Tap the layout button. One big, three below puts your best clip on top. Two rows or two columns hold two clips, and the grids hold four or six.

  3. 03

    Add and frame your clips

Tap a cell to pick a video or a photo. Drag inside a cell to move the clip, and pinch or scroll to zoom.

  4. 04

    Save one MP4

Tap the check mark, pick 1080p and download. Every clip plays at the same time in the saved video, and the sound from each one is mixed in.

  5. 05

Add music and text in Instagram

Post the video to your story. Then open the sticker tray to add a music sticker, or type with the text tool, as on any story.

On iPhone and Android

iPhone, in Safari

  1. 01

Open the one big, three below layout in Safari.

  2. 02

Tap a cell and pick videos from your photo library. Select several at once and they fill the cells in order.

  3. 03

Tap the check mark, then Download. When the video is ready, tap “Save to Photos or share” and pick “Save Video”.

  4. 04

In Instagram, tap + at the top right or swipe right from your feed. Tap the gallery icon at the bottom left, pick the video and tap Your story.

Android, in Chrome

  1. 01

Open the one big, three below layout in Chrome.

  2. 02

Tap a cell and pick videos from your gallery or your files. Select several at once and they fill the cells in order.

  3. 03

Tap the check mark, then Download. When the video is ready, tap “Save to phone” and find it in Gallery → Downloads, or tap “Share to Instagram or Facebook”.

  4. 04

In Instagram, tap + at the top right or swipe right from your feed. Tap the gallery icon at the bottom left, pick the video and tap Your story.

When Instagram’s own tools are enough

If your clips can play one after another, “select multiple” in the Stories gallery is already in the app. If you only have photos, Layout puts up to 6 of them in a grid. Neither one shows moving clips side by side.

When you want clips side by side

Clips that play at the same time on one screen have to be one video before you post. An editor like Edits or CapCut can build that video from overlays or a template. Storyvids starts from the grid, so each clip only needs a cell.

What Storyvids doesn’t do

Storyvids does one job. It has no timeline, no transitions, no text and no music library, and it doesn’t trim clips. The saved video runs as long as the longest clip, and shorter clips loop. If you need those tools, a full editor fits better.

Your clips stay on your phone

Storyvids edits and saves the video in your browser, so your clips are never uploaded. There is no account to make, and the saved video has no watermark.
